What I am struggling with is getting to the next step of magic. I know a lot of cool tricks that impress friends, but how do I reach the next level: Performing professionally or on the streets.
Cool. I love your enthusiasm. The next step is not about tricks at all. You already know enough. It’s about motivation..
You have to actually decide that you WILL do something TODAY that sets you on the path to a live performance.
What will you do…? Most people don’t do anything, they just carry on practicing and buying magic.. Now you need to step out.
Here’s what I suggest you do:
Agree to becoming a magician a long time ahead.
If I called you today, and said that I need your help because one of my team of magicians can’t do a gig tomorrow, would you jump at the chance? Would you panic and decline with an excuse?
That would be a real shame… But it’s completely understandable and often happens. Suddenly, a big, scary event opportunity up. You have been working towards this as a hobby, But it all becomes too serious and real. That’s a big problem, as your first gig will one day pop up like this and you need to be ready for it.
A better way to make the big day less scary is by setting it a long time in the future. It’s much easier to agree to do a show or perhaps some magic at a friends party or wedding, when it’s a long way off. As the date gets closer, it’s much harder to back out, and you will be more likely to follow through and do the gig.
Contact a charity or local fundraiser and offer your services for free for 3 events. It’s vital that you get out and start performing as soon as possible, and as much as possible. Do something TODAY to reach out to an event and offer your services. Becoming a magician can’t be done on your own.. You need to use your community.
That’s the next step…
