Customer service is the life blood of any good magic shop

Have you ever written to a company to let them know how good their customer service was? Dominic Reyes, first let me say that I am buying for my son who is 14 and quite interested in magic. Your book about learning magic, which I downloaded is a great idea to help a beginner find their way through all the various items and helps them to focus on a few important ideas rather be overwhelmed by all there is, thanks! Second, the reason I decided to buy with you is that rather than just sell the things for magic on-line, you actually try to understand what the person is interested in and what might be the most useful for them; which goes a long way beyond most other sites, which just are their to sell the items and move on. Your site makes one feel that they are more than just another customer to sell something to; which I find commendable and it gives one a sense that magic to you is more than just a way to make money.

I learned my first effect 18 months ago and have turned this into regular bookings… I’m not big bucks yet but people do pay me. Kieron writes: ‘I mostly like your site, but as a UK based magician it is a real turn off to get Free Worldwide Delivery offers from you. I assume our price is subsidising your international customers. Once again we lose. This is meant as friendly feedback.’

Thanks for the feedback Kieron. I guess it’s a balancing act. We love being based in the UK, but over the years Merchant of Magic has expanded internationally. The magic shop now has many thousands of customers all over the world. In an ideal world we would be a magic shop with free worldwide delivery on everything, rather than just a few special offers and launch promotions. The cost of that simply would not work. The retail price of many items would be lower than the postage..

Each customer, no matter where they live should get the very best service from the shop and we try to find ways to delight everyone who supports the shop.

As you know, we do special promotions for readers of our magic shop newsletter. Some promotions include free delivery for our international customers as well as those in the UK. It’s hugely popular and international orders sometimes exceed those from the UK during that period, so it really helps the magic shop keep it’s doors open.

Rest assured that UK customers get free delivery too. We give free delivery to everyone that takes up the offers, at our expense, as the price is often far lower than the UK list price for the items. It’s not subsidized by our UK customers. The cost comes directly from the shops operating budget, so it’s the shop that covers the cost.

Yes, yes, we know it's bad form to pat ourselves on the back, but we just can't help it… The team at the magic shop love what we do, and feel lucky that our customers allow us to keep going.
