When watching Dynamo Magician Impossible, instead of wanting to do the exact tricks he performs why not draw inspiration from them and create your own ideas.
So, we love all forms of magic here at the Merchant of Magic, and we get inspired from all areas of the magic community. This inspiration seems to pour out when we see some of the magic on TV.
We have a saying here at the Merchant of Magic – Don’t get mad, get inspired.
When watching Dynamo Magician Impossible, instead of wanting to do the exact tricks he performs why not draw inspiration from them and create your own ideas or search out magic tricks that are relatable to the magic tricks you have seen Dynamo perform.
Our last blog post about Dynamo we told you about a couple of the magic tricks he performed on his show that you can buy the secrets to. In this blog post, we will speak about some of the magic that Dynamo has shown over the Dynamo Magician Impossible series. These magic tricks are not available, but we will list a few different magic tricks that would give off a very similar impression to a live lay audience.
Dynamo Skateboard Trick
This is a trick where a pair of sunglasses disappear from a skateboard and end up on Dynamo’s face. This magic trick is a secret that was devised purely for Dynamo, and, therefore, is not a secret that is sold or shared. There is, however, a fantastic effect that you can do which will give a very similar effect.
UV Nightshades
With UV Nightshades, you can borrow a banknote and draw a pair of sunglasses on the face on the banknote. You then proceed to cause the drawing of the sunglasses to rise onto the forehead of the face. The bank note can instantly be checked by the spectator and handed back for them to inspect!
Why is this a perfect substitution?
Well, it uses a borrowed object, and money nonetheless, making sure you have their attention.
Is immensely impossible and cannot be explained by sleight of hand.
Is visual and immediately can be checked by the spectator.
Dynamo HMV Vanish
This is an iconic Magician Impossible moment. Dynamo walks away from the members of the public, as his back is turned he stops still. After a moment, he vanishes, and his clothes drop to the floor.
Bisection
Bisection is a great performance piece that you can get a fantastic reaction from a crowd of people. In Bisection, you lift a cloth or other cover up over your head, as it drops down the audience can see the top half of your body has completely vanished! The bottom half of your body takes a few steps towards the audience before the cloth rises back up and drops to reveal you standing there, fully restored!
Why is this a great substitution?
Put simply, this is a crowd pleaser, it is shocking and visual and can get that huge reaction from a lot of people you may be craving.
Bisection is not your regular sort of magic trick. A half vanish of yourself is a weird thing to look at and something they will remember for the rest of their lives.
Dynamo Phone in Bottle
This is probably one of Dynamo’s most famous effects. All magicians want to be able to perform it, and all lay people want to know how it is done. A phone is borrowed and put inside a glass bottle.
Alternative items
Firstly I think it necessary to think about what you wish to achieve, as a borrowed phone in a glass borrowed bottle is not practical, it is Dynamo’s personal method, again devised and created just for him. But you wouldn’t want just to copy Dynamo would you?
So, do you want to be able to perform magic with borrowed items like bank cards and phones or do you want to be putting things inside bottles?
For a great DVD that teaches you amazing magic with borrowed objects like mobile phones and bank cards check out:
Hide and Seek
This is James Brown’s fantastic routine using an old Pat Page idea. Borrowed phones disappear in the blink of an eye and can reappear in your inside jacket pocket (or if you have a JOL Large Plus Wallet, it can appear in your wallet). All of this is achieved with no palming, just James’ excellent structuring of his routine.
iClear
This is an iPhone that is clear and completely transparent. Imagine your spectator’s face when you take their phone and make it into a transparent block! If you used this with a combined with Hide and Seek you could have an immensely strong routine where you cause their phone to go clear, then it completely vanishes and reappears in your wallet or pocket!
If, however, you are more fascinated with the idea of getting something inside of a bottle magically then why not check out:
Labelled
This is where the label of a sealed bottle penetrates the bottle and ends up locked inside. The label can have something written on it and can be handed out for a complete examination. They can even keep the bottle with the label sealed inside forever if you wish.
Deceptus
Although this is not a bottle penetration, it is a penetration effect where you can throw things into a can that are too big to come out of the opening.
Manoj Bottle
This is a DVD that teaches you Manoj’s method to getting a coin or other large object like a pen through the bottom of a standard drinks bottle. The bottle can be freely shown before the penetration and can be handed (with good audience management) out after the penetration to be checked out. The object must be retrieved from the bottle by cutting the bottle open before handing it back.
So these are some ideas that you can use to up your game with everyday items that you can borrow that really give the same feeling to the spectators as they experience when watching Dynamo Magician Impossible. They each have a similar sort of plot and are visual and use everyday objects. The real key to performing magic like this is to make sure it doesn't seem set up. Wait and bide you time when you have something set up and ready. If performing
Deceptus, pretend you are drinking from the can for a while, then if you are at a friend's house you could leave it on the side for a few minutes as if you have finished and don't care if the can is discarded or thrown away. Then after a few minutes begin the magic trick and maybe talk about Dynamo if you wish, steer the conversation your way. You can also have someone hand you the can, this sells that you have had distance from it and especially if other people are drinking from identical cans you can say you haven't even touched the can until now.
There are also a few props you should always have on you for magic at a moments notice. Here are my top three suggestions.
Loops or Innercircle
Always have some Loops in your wallet, the amount of great magic you can perform with these is immense. Making glasses move, rings float, pens animate all of this with ungimmicked borrowed items.
Thumb Tip
The underated humble thumb Tip should be one of your best friends, simple vanishes of sweet wrappers, salt or banknotes can establish you as a very skilled magician in any situation.
PK Ring
These are a very useful tool to have with you. They enable you to perform miracles like stopping someone's watch or making a fork spin that is balanced on a bottle, coin in bottle, coin through table and so on.
If you constantly have a couple of props such as these on you, you are able to perform some astonishing magic at a moments notice that will get you great reactions. You will always be ready when someone asks to see a trick, and they will never forget it.
In summary the things to take from this blog post is that there are a tonne of great magic tricks available that can give your spectators the same feeling they get when they see magic on TV like Dynamo.
In the spirit of giving as well, here is a great impromptu card trick you can do with a borrowed set of keys!

In order to rise to the challenge of the somewhat demanding public you just need to give it some thought, always try to up your game, and remember, don't get mad, get inspired!
