The magic shop just shipped its 100,000th order!

It's exciting day here at the magic shop. The Merchant of Magic just shipped our 100,000th order online.

It's a really great feeling to know that the magic shop has helped so many magicians build their magic acts and discover new tricks. I would like to say a huge thank you to all our customers for their support and friendship over the years. The team at the Merchant of Magic are all working magicians that live in breath performing magic. So every day we feel really lucky to be part of a team to reach out to so many other magicians that feel the same way.

I have a small confession to make.

I was planning to run a competition for the 100,000th order. I was going to make a really big thing about it, and hype up the fact that we were about to hit that milestone. We sat in a planning meeting to discuss ways to use that milestone to push more orders through the magic shop. But we all decided that that would not be fair for a very good reason:

We value, need, and respect every single order that we receive at the magic shop. From the budding new magicians that purchase just a deck of playing cards, the professional magicians that use our services to help adapt and expand their acts, right through to the TV magicians and studios that come to us to develop new magic tricks for the TV shows. Every single order allows us to keep our doors open, create content that can help new magicians starting out, and provide support and advice on how to use any of the magic which magicians order from us.

Dynamo Magician Impossible wins TV Show of the Year at the Virgin Media Awards

The Dynamo Magician Impossible TV show was voted by viewers to win the TV Show of the Year at the 2013 Virgin Media Awards. Beating iconic TV Shows like ‘Sherlock’ and ‘Doctor Who‘ to the top place. The other two TV series only getting a quarter of the votes between them.

This is great news both for magicians and magic in general. He is introducing a whole new generation to the world of magic tricks.

The third series of Dynamo: Magician Impossible is due to air on TV shortly. Magicians in the UK are enjoying a booming market for close up magic as a result of the current popularity of magic on TV.

If you are a close up magician, now is the time to focus some of your marketing efforts on venues and events that perhaps you have not considered in the past. Festivals, PR Events and retail store opening parties can all be a great source of work. You need to take action to contact companies that plan these events.

Dynamo’s magic tricks may be popular at the moment, but nobody is going to come looking for you, unless you let people know what you can do. Even Dynamo spent years doing just this kind of promotion before he was taken under management and his TV career started.

Do this:

Create a media or press pack about your services as a magician and add a link to it on your website.

Google event planners and PR companies to find events in your area that may be interested in using your magic tricks.

Contact your local radio and ask if they would like you to come on air and so some audio magic.

Get out and start performing your magic tricks at festivals, parks, pubs and local events to gain exposure.

Now is the time to capitalize on the popularity of live magic. It’s never been a better time to show people street magic tricks up close and create your own local reputation.

How to Return Magic Tricks That You Don’t Like

Until you start learning a new magic trick, it’s very hard to know if it is going to be right for you.

The magic shop already has a 365 day magic trick return policy, where you have up to one full year to return an unused item to them for an online credit to choose something else.

The old way:

The standard 365 day return policy has some seriously big limitations:

The item has to be unused and returned in A1 condition.
It excluded magic DVD’s and digital media.
You get an online credit to choose something else instead.

Now, that’s still better than any other magic shops we know about, but sometimes you order a magic trick, play with it, test it out and then decide it’s not for you. It may not be right for your style, it might be above your current level of technical skill, or you might simply think that it sucks..

So, we had a team meeting, and Dominic suggested that they pick a few items, and let customers just play with them at home to make sure that the magic tricks really are right for them. Everyone on the team thought that would be awesome, but when we discussed this a magician visiting the shop, he raised this point:

Magician: ‘That’s all well and good, but isn’t the purpose of a magic shop to sell magic secrets? Once a secret has been shared it can’t be ‘unshared’ and therefore, can’t’ be returned.’

Dominic: ‘That’s a very good point, BUT our magic shop doesn’t just sell magic tricks. The purpose of The Merchant of Magic is to teach, train and support magicians to become better.’
