Magicians Paperwork and Contracts – How to Stay Organised

by Merchant of Magic 2 Comments

By Dominic Reyes

Evernote for MagiciansBeing a magician isn’t just about mastering magic tricks and putting together an act. It’s also a huge pile of magicians paperwork and contracts!
Client contracts, invoices, venue information, flight times and travel details all try as hard as possible to spoil your fun.

Keeping all your magicians paperwork and contracts in order, and quickly and easily stored can be a real headache. If you struggle with this too, you may find this short video very useful.

I talk about a free service: Evernote

I’ve been using Evernote the past 8 years, and it has transformed how I keep track of all the information the business side of my magic creates.  Since using this service, I have every bit of information I ever need, right at my fingertips on every trip and at every gig I go to. I recommend you check it out:

One of the best reasons to use Evernote, is that it’s with you at every gig. You can check timings, your fee, and any rider details instantly. Magicians paperwork and contracts at your fingertips 24/7… If you find you are disorganised during the busy ‘gig season’ Evernote will prove to be invaluable.

How do you handle your magicians paperwork and contracts? Leave a comment in the section below.

Repeating a Magic Trick – Improve Reactions When showing magic tricks to friends

How to repeat a magic trick to the same people

By Dominic Reyes

What should you do when repeating a magic trick for a spectator?

I was recently booked to perform at a large dinner party and discovered the client had arranged a ‘fun’ way to mix up the evening. There were 15 tables of guests and between each course the host made everyone change tables with each other. Great fun for the guests, but not so much fun for a table hopping magician. Pretty soon, most tables had a guest or two that had already seen me at their table earlier. On top of that, many had been talking about it to the others that hadn’t seen me yet, and were excited about me performing some of the tricks they had just seen for the others.

Situations like that are rare, but people often want magicians to show their friends or colleagues a trick that impressed them in the past. Perhaps it’s a walk-around magic situation, and you approach a group only to find some of the members have moved from another group you have already visited.

Maybe your friends or family ask you to repeat a magic trick for one of their friends. Here’s a couple of tips I hope might help.

No, it’s not moody, atmospheric lighting, and I’ve not got the worlds worst sunburn… I’m in my car, at stupid o’clock, parked outside a hotel near Birmingham. Seriously, there’s no expense spared when it comes to my video’s!

How to Arrive at a Magic Gig – Dominic Reyes

by Merchant of Magic Leave a Comment

Here’s some useful advice about how to arrive at a magic gig professionally when you start a magic show:

‘I attended a lot of events over December arranged via agents. One of the things that surprised me was watching the other magicians arrive at the event. They dumped their bags into a corner and jump right into the crowd. At first I thought, this client must be a regular booking for them, but talking to them afterwards, it seems this was not the case. They simply felt that it was professional to show the client that they didn’t need any setting up and were being ‘professional’.

It’s my personal opinion that this is a BIG MISTAKE. I explain why in this short video.’ – Dominic Reyes
