How does the magician Troy do his new magic tricks?

We have blogged about magician Troy already and shown a little preview of his magic from his new show Troy. We expect a lot of calls at the magic shop asking, ‘How does magician Troy do his magic tricks?!!?’ and for good reason too! We at the Merchant of Magic discuss what we can learn from watching TV magicians like Troy and Dynamo Magician Impossible.

Real name Troy Von Scheibner, Troy is the newest name in magic to hit the mainstream media, and we predict big things for this young talented magician! Just check out one of his new magic tricks here, in this little video Troy astonishes some people at his local barber’s.

Troy Aired on 11th February on the UK channel E4 Troy and caused ripples in the magic community and the general public! His smooth and casual demeanor allows him to shock his unsuspecting spectators with his own brand of magic tricks!

So, how does Troy do his magic tricks? Unfortunately, that is for Troy to know and all of us to wonder!

Whenever the team at The Merchant of Magic look at the magic being presented on TV instead of trying to replicate what we see we like to try to learn from it and gather inspiration. Instead of asking, how does Troy do his magic tricks? or how did Dynamo Magician Impossible put the phone in the bottle? we simply enjoy the feeling and try to tweak the magic tricks we already do. If we like the magic tricks we see we think about how to take the magic we know already and elevate it to that miracle status. For example if you perform coin magic tricks is it possible to use their coins instead? By taking an item from a spectator and using it to perform magic, it instantly elevates the magic to a higher status in the spectator’s mind. They know there is nothing set up with their item, check out items like Manoj Bottle and Hide and Seek for some great magic with borrowed items. Also by performing magic in the spectator’s hands it can elevate the level of magic perceived by the spectator, a great example of this is Garrett Thomas’ Imagination Coins.

The viewing public understands that magic on TV is utterly impossible, but with the correct presentation and understanding of magic you can make your spectator’s feel the same way with simpler tricks suited for live performance. By utilising props like Loops, PK Magnets and even something as simple as a Raven or Thumb Tip you can create miracles for people if presented correctly.

If you really wish to leave a lasting impression on your spectators with your magic tricks you must ask yourself this question, ‘If I could really do magic, how would I present it to people, what would it look like?’

Troy Magician Magic on UK TV – The Next Dynamo Magician Impossible?

Congratulations to UK close up magician Troy He's been signed by Channel 4 to create 6 new magic shows to TV.

The Merchant of Magic works with many magicians who create pilot shows and pitch to the networks. Although the quality is high, the chances of a new magic show being given the go ahead is very small. The magic shop team have helped Zig Zag Productions by supplying props and giving advice for Troy, so we are really excited that his show has been commissioned!

The first Troy Magician series will highlight the young magician's style and talent by performing amazing magic tricks for the general public. It's a format that has worked very well for Dynamo Magician Impossible. The magic TV shows will fuse street magic and close up magic in the studio, ending with a central big magic trick to close each episode.

Troy Von Scheibner (24) is of German and Jamaican descent and was raised in South London. He has been an active member of the Young Magicians Club since the age of 13.

The first series is due to air in February 2014. We will keep you posted as we get more news.

There's no doubt that the target audience for Troy is similar to that of Dynamo Magician Impossible. Insiders have been saying for a long time that Channel 4 has been seeking a similar format to go up against the hit 'street magician' signed by Watch.

As magicians, this is great news. Magic shows like Dynamo Magician Impossible and Troys new magic show are keeping magic current and popular to an audience fleeing from conventional TV networks over to internet based media such as Youtube.

The focus on street style and urban culture are ensuring that close up magic maintains it's appeal to the next generation of clients for live magic entertainment.

Dynamo Magician Impossible – Interview and Two Christmas TV Specials Coming

Dynamo Magician Impossible has produced two TV specials over the Xmas period. Including a fly on the wall documentary and a top list of his best ever magic tricks.

Dynamo Magician Impossible has finished two TV special episodes for fans this Christmas. Both shows will air on Watch

Dynamo will ask his fans to vote for their best magic trick. The winning magic tricks will be compiled into a Dynamo Top Ten Greatest Moments show.

Celebrities including Mathew Horne, Keith Lemon, Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills and Tinie Tempah will appear on the show to chat about the magic tricks and Dynamo in general.

The second TV Show: Dynamo Revealed provides a detailed interview with Dynamo Magician Impossible, hosted by Zane Lowe.

The interview will highlight Dynamo's backstory. Covering his childhood and rise to fame.

There is no question that Dynamo Magician Impossible has become a worldwide hit with magic fans and the general public. The spotlight that the shows cast on magic has been well received by working magicians. They have increased demand for magicians at events all over the UK.

Dynamo's unassuming persona, presented with a heart warming back story has won over audiences that had become tired of the old 'stage magic' presentation of magic on television. Although many of the magic tricks on the shows have received criticism from magicians as being simply 'theatrical stunts' and 'TV Magic', the shows have become the talking point for TV viewers all over the country.

What magicians can learn from the show.

The interview is a great chance for magicians to watch and learn about persona branding, creating a backstory, and connecting with an audience on an emotional level. It's an insight into the marketing required to be world famous magician.
