Ben Hanlin Tricked Performs Deceptus Keys inside Soda Can

Ben Hanlin - Tricked- Performs Deceptus

Deceptus – Keys inside Soda Can Trick Performed on Ben Hanlin Tricked

Great to see Ben Hanlin Tricked feature Deceptus on the magic TV series. Ben approached the magic shop whilst Deceptus was still in development because the magic trick was a perfect fit for the show.

Because Dynamo performed Deceptus earlier in the month, we were excitied to see how Ben Hanlin – Tricked would present the magic trick differently. Ben added his own TV magic twist to the presentation by having the spectators go into a shop and purchase a soda can to use in the trick. Obviously, performing conditions may no allow this in a live performance without some extra work from the magician, but it was a perfect fit for the episode and worked very well. Here's Ben Hanlin performing the trick:

As the makers of Deceptus, it's important to add some points about the performance that will help other magicians perform Deceptus correctly.

1) Once the item has been placed inside the can, try to minimise the amount of handling you give the can. You don't need to squeeze or twist the can before handing it out for inspection. Just insert the object, and turn the can around fully so it's seen to be intact.

2) Be very careful opening the soda can. Ben Hanlin rips open the can with his hands. We suggest using protective gloves if you are going to do that. The edges of a ripped open can are sharp!

3) DON'T have the spectator reach in and remove the object with their fingers! Those sharp edges are an accident waiting to happen if you allow someone to push their fingers into the can. Instead, empty the object onto their hands, or give then tweezers to extract the object.

Those points aside, it's a great performance and we are pleased to have worked with Ben Hanlin Tricked to show you Deceptus in action.

Magic Trick Reviews – Deceptus By Jimmy Strange

 By Jeff Stone

Deceptus By Jimmy Strange

Magician Jeff Stone has spent many years providing magic trick reviews online. He has a reputation speaking his mind when it comes to magic trick reviews.

His informal style aims to inform magicians about what is good and bad in the magic trick marketplace.

Jeff doesn't just point out the negatives. He's not just reviewing magic tricks based on his personal tastes. Jeff uses the following guide:

  • The build quality of the magic trick being reviewed. (packaging, DVD lighting, sound, quality)
  • Value for money
  • How much hype
  • How practical the magic trick is to perform
  • The quality of the magic tuition
  • Originality and creativity.

Unlike many magic review shows that may have a commercial agenda, Jeff's reviews cut to the truth about a magic product without being an extended sales pitch for items he is promoting. You can watch his other excellent magic trick reviews here

Should My Wife Judge My Magic Tricks?

by Dominic Reyes Leave a Comment

Magic tricks with your wife

Graham writes: 'My partner is my confidant in my magic. I practice with her, and she knows all… I was wondering if you could point me towards a magic trick that could still blow her mind. Then I would know I can fool anyone…'

Hi Graham,

If your partner knows all, then I'd class her as a 'magician.' Don't spend too much time trying to fool other magicians.

What 'fools' a magician is no measure of what will entertain someone who hasn't 'seen behind the curtain.'

It's wonderful that your partner is helping you with your practice, and you can take advantage of this as much as possible. However, I'd warn against judging the quality of your magic performance on her reactions.

It would be time better spent to seek out a fresh audience. Volunteer to do an hour of magic at your local community centre, or at a rest home in your town. That will prove to yourself that you can fool anyone. Best of all, it’s at zero risk because you're an awesome guy and helping out in your community.

However, I'm aware that might not be the type of answer you wanted so..

If you want a magician fooler, go for Stand-Up Monte by Garret Thomas. The public loves that trick, whilst the ending fools the hell out of magicians that visit the magic shop 🙂

Hope this helps
